The Supreme Court has decided not to address the legal liability shield protecting tech platforms like Twitter, Meta’s Facebook, and Google’s YouTube from being held responsible for users’ posts. The court’s decision relieves these platforms for now, but Congress members are still eager to reform the liability shield. In a separate case, Twitter v. Taamneh, the court ruled that claims of Twitter aiding terrorism by not removing enough terrorist content couldn’t be brought under anti-terrorism law.
Well, I guess big tech can celebrate their continued reign over users’ speech for now—maybe they should thank the Supreme Court for bailing them out of any responsibility.
