According to a CNN Poll, 60% of Americans believe that raising the debt ceiling should coincide with spending cuts. Although 84% of Americans are in favor of increasing the debt ceiling, most Democrats and Republicans agree that any increase should be accompanied by reductions in government spending. Despite bipartisan support for raising the ceiling, a majority in both parties are more concerned that they will concede too much during negotiations rather than the US defaulting on its debt.
It looks like both parties have finally found common ground on raising the debt ceiling; it’s just a shame that it took the brink of economic disaster for them to hold hands and jump into the abyss together.
