Florida Couple Survives Spain Train Crash
Before anything else tonight, a hard story. Wednesday morning, two high-speed trains collided in Urda, near Toledo in central Spain. Regional leader Emiliano Garcia-Page says the death toll has risen to 69 after remains were found overnight, and authorities said Thursday that 57 people remained in the hospital.
Among the passengers were Jacksonville firefighter Josue Garcia Otero and his wife Diamary Garcia, a nurse, along with six other family members. They survived. Then, according to the fire department, they got to safety and went to work treating critically injured patients. Fire Chief Percy Golden II told the NY Post the firefighter could have looked after his own family and left it there. He chose otherwise. He serves on the department's Critical Care Team.
Spain's transport minister says a signal failure stopped several trains, and one was authorized to proceed despite a stopped train ahead. Pray for the families in Spain, and thank God for people who run toward the wreckage.
