Military Helicopter Crash Kills 4 in Training

Some stories you read twice because you don't want them to be true. This is one. An Italian CH-47 Chinook helicopter with an EU peacekeeping force crashed in a field near Gorice in Brcko District, Bosnia and Herzegovina, during a training exercise on Thursday. The NY Post reports four people were killed and 11 injured out of the 15 aboard. La Repubblica identifies the dead as army sergeants and flight technicians Simone Ruggia and Claudio Marchesi, Red Cross Military Corps lieutenant Franco Adriano Zecchillo, and sergeant Laura Procacci. EUFOR says the injured are stable, no civilians were hurt, and an investigation is underway. Italian Minister Guido Crosetto said, "There are no words capable of filling such a great loss." Those who died were doing the hard work of keeping the peace. Their families deserve answers, and the investigation deserves to be thorough.
