Freed American Hubbard Meets Trump at White House

President Trump hosted Stephen Hubbard, an American recently released from Russian custody, in the Oval Office on Friday, Oct. 30, CBS News reports. Hubbard was jailed in Russia after being accused of fighting as a mercenary for Ukraine, a charge he denies. The NY Post reports Trump secured his release on Oct. 21 after a phone call with Putin.
Hubbard told the NY Post, "I wouldn't have lasted another year." Trump says there was no swap and has not reimposed the sanctions waived for Russia, though CBS News reports he appeared to tie the release to that sanctions decision.
Americans held abroad deserve a government that does not quit on them.
