Justice Dept Seeks Split of Alaska Ballots
The Justice Department wants a federal judge to make Alaska officials set aside every ballot ranking Dan J. Sullivan, and it wants that done before Monday. The filing cites voter confusion but never explains how looking at the ballots would show anybody was confused. The New York Times reports that Mary Peltola's campaign helped recruit a candidate also named Dan J. Sullivan, which Peltola denies. If the Times has that right, Peltola's people were running a shell game on a four-candidate ranked choice ballot, and that's a lot of trouble to go to for a second Dan Sullivan. Around here we'd call a stunt like that all hat and no cattle. Bless their hearts, and I mean that with my whole chest.
