CT Coach Allegedly Chokes Ref Over Foul Call

Back home, a bad call gets a grumble from the bleachers. Police say Thomas Sparks, 37, a Staples coach, allegedly tripped and choked a referee during a Connecticut Elite game in Shelton on October 24. Witnesses backed the referee. Sparks told investigators he got physical because he wasn't sure how the ref would take it, which is one way to find out. He's charged with assault, strangulation and risk of injury to a child, and he's out on a $10,000 bond. He resigned from Staples days later, a day late and a dollar short, citing personal and family considerations. Maybe pay the refs better and the coaches a cold shower, though the state would form a commission. My truck has more accountability than this, and the radio doesn't even work.
