Indiana University Shooting Leaves 7 Hurt at Homecoming
At least seven people were hurt early Sunday in a shooting on Kirkwood Avenue, near the Indiana University campus in Bloomington, during homecoming weekend. Police heard multiple gunshots in a large crowd. Around 1:30 a.m., Deputy Chief of Police Ryan Pedigo said officers saw a man running from the scene with a gun. One person is in custody and a gun was found nearby, but police do not yet know whether he is the shooter. Pedigo said no deaths have been reported. The Bloomingtonian reports shell casings of various calibers on the sidewalk, suggesting multiple guns were fired. Our hearts go out to the wounded, their families, and everyone who was out celebrating and suddenly running for cover. Communities deserve to feel safe on their own streets, and those responsible should answer to the law.
