A grim one to report, and I'll keep it plain. Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy, a Democrat, was hospitalized after a stroke, his office said Sunday. The 53-year-old felt numbness in his arm at his son's hockey game on Saturday. He was taken to a local hospital and then transferred to Johns Hopkins in Maryland.

His chief of staff, Allison Hewitt, said the senator is awake and alert and that doctors expect a full recovery. Murphy has represented Connecticut in the Senate since 2013.

A stroke can come at any age, in the middle of an ordinary Saturday, and getting help fast is what counts. Faith and family carry a man through a day like this, and that is where our prayers go tonight. We are pulling for the senator and his family, and for a full and speedy recovery.
