DOJ Seeks Sanctions Over Database Analysis

The Justice Department wants a federal judge to consider holding the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights and its lawyers in contempt. The group published an analysis of a list of more than 20,000 suspected noncitizens registered to vote in California, which DOJ says broke the judge's data-use order. Judge Boasberg had already let them see the data Friday, so the rules were no secret. Their lawyers say over 40% of the people on the list don't appear in the state's voter file, which is a big miss for a herd count. Whether anybody gets held in contempt hasn't been decided. Around here, when the judge says don't open the gate, you don't go telling the neighbors what's in the pasture.
