Woke California College Axes Mascot After 90 Years
The University of San Francisco is retiring The Don, its costumed mascot since 1932, starting with the spring 2027 semester. A wolf takes over, but the Dons nickname stays, so they're swapping the animal and keeping the name. Around here we call that selling the truck and keeping the license plate. President Salvador Aceves told the NY Post "we believe the time is right to revitalize our image," which is what a man says after reading his own brochure. It started with a 2022 student government resolution, and five years later the school finally got around to it. Some alumni griped online, and the wolf is not expected to comment. A committee will now consult on the costume design in coming months, so somewhere a bureaucrat just high-fived himself.
