Honolulu Woman, 77, Helps Foil Kidnapping Attempt
A 77-year-old Honolulu woman and her neighbors stepped in when a man allegedly grabbed a 24-year-old woman in a Diamond Head parking garage, and the younger woman was freed. A witness photographed the suspect's truck, which helped police, before he drove off. Diesel Kawelo, 23, was arrested about three hours later. KHON-TV reports that a Honolulu prosecutor indicted him for kidnapping and harassment, and kidnapping is a class A felony that could mean up to 20 years in prison. The Western Journal quotes the 77-year-old woman saying, "He looked like a monster." Kawelo has been charged, not convicted, and he is entitled to his day in court. Our thoughts are with the young woman, and with the neighbors who did not wait to be asked.
