Federal Probe Launched Into Deadly Florida Plane Crash

Somewhere tonight a family got the worst call of their lives. A private Learjet 60 flying from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas crashed Sunday near a mobile home community in Palm Beach County, Florida, killing all nine people on board. The NTSB has sent a go-team, with FAA personnel assisting. Miami aviation attorney Zachary Gorwitz, reviewing a pilot and air traffic control recording, says the plane dropped about 7 miles in 60 seconds and the pilot had reported ice minutes earlier. That is his read, not the official cause, and Bombardier won't comment until the investigation is complete. Investigators need the time to get this right, and the families deserve answers. Our prayers are with them tonight.
