Flash Floods Force Evacuations in Southwest
Prayers first, then the facts. Heavy rain triggered flash flooding and evacuations across the Southwest, including in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, where officials sounded the alarm over a San Juan River flood that could turn catastrophic. By sundown Sunday the river had reached about 14 feet, according to a county spokesperson, and it is forecast to top 20 feet late that night. Evacuations are in effect in Sedona, Arizona, and Gisela, on Tonto Creek in Gila County. Authorities are searching for a man who slipped into fast-moving water in Flagstaff. The National Weather Service has flood warnings and watches across nearly all of Arizona, with as much as 4 inches of rain possible through Monday. Our prayers are with these families. Heed the evacuation orders and listen to local officials.
