Pilot: "We're Managing the Ice" Then Mayday

A Learjet 60 crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sunday, killing all nine people aboard, according to CBS News. The jet had left Austin, Texas, bound for the Bahamas. Audio recordings captured the pilot saying "we're managing the ice" before he declared a Mayday, and air traffic control recorded him describing moderate turbulence and making multiple distress calls. The FAA says he reported weather and turbulence problems along the way. Officials believe severe weather may have been a factor, but the cause has not been settled, and until investigators say more, nobody should be guessing at it. No one on the ground was killed. Our thoughts are with the families of those nine people, including co-pilot Nathalia Filgueiras, 20, whose loss will be felt far beyond Palm Beach County.
