Tornadoes, Hurricane-Force Winds Threaten Six States

Severe storms, flash flooding and damaging winds are threatening a large part of the country. The Daily Mail lists Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Iowa among the states at risk. A tornado watch covers 73 counties in Oklahoma, Kansas and northern Texas, meaning tornadoes are possible, not yet spotted.
Meteorologist Ryan Hall says, "The most likely period for severe storms is this afternoon through tonight." Gusts could reach 65 to 80 mph, and in parts of Oklahoma and northern Texas winds could hit hurricane strength.
Forecasters still aren't sure where the worst winds will hit, so anyone in the path should follow local warnings and have a shelter plan ready. Our thoughts are with the families and first responders facing a long night.
