DOJ Faces 'Heavy Lift' in Alaska Election Appeal
Alaska has two men named Dan Sullivan on its Senate ballot, a coincidence the Beltway geniuses somehow failed to predict. The Justice Department sued, and Judge Sharon Gleason dismissed the case Sunday, ruling federal officials lacked standing. Translation: worrying about a ballot is not the same as being harmed by one. DOJ has filed a notice of appeal to the Ninth Circuit. Fox News Digital reports legal experts see a heavy lift, and Jason Torchinsky put it plainly: 'this is a heavy lift for the government.' Voting ends Tuesday, so the appeal has about as much time as a Washington promise gets before it expires. A reversal would not automatically change the results, and a separate criminal probe into the alleged recruitment of the second Sullivan keeps going. I warned that ballots are no place for name games. Nobody listens until it's a federal case.
