NY AG Monitoring Westchester Ballot Scanning Issue
Ballot scanners at polling places across Westchester County, New York, quit taking paper ballots Tuesday morning. The county Board of Elections says those ballots go into emergency orange bags to be counted, and I'd like to know who ordered orange bags for a ballot box. I sell orange buckets at the store, and none of them were built for democracy. Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat, says her office is monitoring the issue, and she told The Hill, "Your votes will count." I've heard that from suppliers too, and I'd rather see the count than the promise. A scanner that won't read paper is a register that won't take cash, and I'd have the service man out before the lunch rush. The problems hit the NY-17 race, where Republican Mike Lawler faces Democrat Cait Conley. Broward County, Florida, had scanner trouble as well, resolved by late morning, according to Local 10 News.
