Westchester Ballot Machines Reject Paper Ballots
Just the News reports that ballot scanners across Westchester County, New York, were down Tuesday morning and reportedly would not accept paper ballots anywhere in the county. A paper ballot is the one item in the building with no firmware, and the machine still sent it back. Rep. Mike Lawler, a Republican, told voters to stay in line and vote, and said residents' ballots will still be counted. The Board of Elections says the ballots are secure and it's working with its vendors on the fix. Nobody has said whether the fault is the ballot or the machine, and I'd like that answered before anybody asks me to trust the tally. Regular folks figured this out a long time ago: if the machine won't take your ballot, you don't walk out of line. You stay put.
