Home Invasion Suspect Released Before Warrant

On Oct. 29, three masked suspects carrying handguns and a hammer broke into a home near Hyde Park Circle. The homeowner, 75-year-old CEO David Morton, was shot and struck with that hammer. His two adult daughters were also shot.
Suspect Daijohn Richards reached St. Joseph's Health Center at 4:19 a.m. with a gunshot wound. The Toronto Star says it is thought to have been an accident caused by an accomplice. He was treated, spoke with police there, and was discharged that morning.
Toronto police Chief Myron Demkiw defended the decision not to arrest Richards, saying officers lacked enough evidence then, according to the Daily Caller. A Canada-wide warrant has since been issued for him. Families should be safe in their own homes. Our thoughts are with the Mortons.
