Nine people died Sunday when a Learjet crashed in Florida. At a Tuesday press conference, NTSB spokesperson Thomas B. Chapman said investigators have found that important tail pieces had already separated before the plane reached the ground. The left elevator, the part that moves the nose up and down, was found in three pieces roughly 1.3 to 3.8 miles from the site. What caused the aircraft to lose control is still under analysis, and investigators have not yet determined whether the separation caused the loss or came from forces acting on the plane. Our hearts go out to the families of all nine. Let the investigators finish their work, and let the answers come from the evidence.
