Dems SCRAMBLE as DOJ Heats Up Decoy Dan
The Justice Department has sent letters to about 20 Democrats, including election lawyer Marc Elias and an official at the DSCC, saying they might be targets. Washington's version of a summons, printed on nicer paper. The New York Times, citing two people, says the probe concerns the recruitment of a candidate who shares a name with Senator Dan Sullivan. The letters landed on Election Day, in a tight race against Mary Peltola, because nobody in Washington owns a calendar.
Democrats call it political and argue ballot stacking is a common campaign tactic, not clearly illegal under state law. The DOJ says its investigation predated the Times story.
