Jet Parts Found Miles From Palm Beach Crash

Nine people died when a Learjet 60 crashed in Palm Beach County on Sunday. The jet was flying from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas. No investigation can undo that loss, and our thoughts are with the families tonight. Investigators say pieces of the plane were found as far as 3.8 miles from the impact site, which suggests it was breaking up before it hit the ground, per NTSB member Tom Chapman. He said the tail's elevator was broken into three parts. CBS News quotes Chapman: "knowing that it was lost is a very important piece of evidence." Minutes before the crash, the co-pilot told air traffic controllers that ice was accumulating and severe turbulence had thrown the plane up and down by more than 700 feet. The cause has not been determined. Let the investigators do their work, and let the families get answers.
