Democrat David Crowley Makes History in Wisconsin
Wisconsin picked a new governor, and it wasn't the Republican. The Associated Press called it at 11:28 p.m., per the Washington Examiner, handing Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley the keys to the state Evers is leaving. The Examiner has Crowley at 53.6% to Tiffany's 46.4%; Breitbart had 55% to 45% with about 60% counted. Crowley becomes the state's first Black governor.
The Cook Political Report called this a toss-up, and the spending was heavy, which means a lot of money bought a lot of mailers. Tom Tiffany, the Republican congressman, kept hammering the socialist angle, telling Fox News, "That sounds like a socialist to me." Crowley only edged the Democratic Socialist Francesca Hong in the August primary, so the line had a pulse.
GOP strategists will blame the map. Republican voters didn't fail here. Whoever sold a toss-up as a sure thing did.
