Massive Explosion at Mississippi Chemical Plant
Shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday, an explosion and fire at the Loveland Products plant in Greenville, Mississippi, sent a large plume of black smoke into the air. Preliminary information from plant management says an herbicide chemical was involved. Residents nearby were asked to shelter in place, and NY Post reports that order was lifted just before noon. No injuries were immediately reported. Nutrien, Loveland's parent company, says the fire is being managed and plant leadership is working with first responders. The cause has not been stated, and the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality is assessing air quality impacts. Our prayers go out to the crews fighting this fire and to the families in Washington County who spent a couple of hours indoors. Neighbors of a chemical plant are owed straight answers about what came out of it, and they should get them once the cause is known.
